A friendly family owned restaurant and public house, The Hero of Aliwal is named after Whittlesey's most famous son, Sir Harry Smith.

In an idyllic location close to the river, The Hero of Aliwal is located in quiet surroundings, very popular with anglers and contractors.

We have 6 rooms available for bed and breakfast.

A cooked breakfast is served daily in the restaurant. The Heros also serves home cooked bar meals for lunch and dinner in the restaurant

An excellent selection of real ales, changed on a weekly basis. Oakhams Ales, Adnams, Broadside and Summer Lightening to name but a few. Our restaurant provides warm, comfortable surroundings, with a great selection of food to choice from.

The modern-day city of Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, hides a wealth of history just waiting to be uncovered. Visit Flag Fen Bronze Age Centre where archaeologists found the oldest wheel in Britain. Then fast forward a few centuries to discover the "new" 12th century cathedral with the largest surviving example of a painted wooden ceiling from the Middle Ages.
